Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

A referral from your doctor is recommended but not required. This is to make sure that other medical reasons for your pain have been excluded.

How many sessions will I require?

Typically between 3-8 sessions are required to see lasting benefits. Sessions are normally one week apart.

What are the risks of dry needling?

myoActivation is usually a safe method of treatment but is not free of risk. All dry needling echniques (IMS, acupuncture and myoActivation) present risks. At the time of treatment, risks include minor bleeding at a needling site, minor pain/discomfort, sweating, nausea, and dizziness. Rarely, patients may experience vomiting and/or fainting. Risks after treatment may include a bruised sensation, visible bruising (ecchymosis), soreness, fatigue, localized bleeding into soft tissues (hematoma), numbness or tingling near a needling site, pain flare-up, and local skin irritation. Very rare treatment complications include infection, pneumothorax (abnormal collection of air or gas in the space that separates the lung from the chest wall), allergic reaction, and damage to underlying structures.
